Theodore is a small rural community on the Dawson River in central Queensland. Theodore supports a diverse rural sector with its main industries being cattle, cotton, grain and timber. Almost 80 percent of the Shire's cotton is grown in the Dawson Valley Area. Theodore's hardwood processing plant is one of the largest and safest mills in Queensland. Theodore has a population of 600 plus a district population of 1200 people. Closer settlement occurred with the establishment of the township of Theodore in 1922 as a demonstration area for the proposed Dawson Valley Irrigation Scheme.
